As much a brilliant idea as it is funny: the web 2.0 suicide machine. One click of a button removes you from many social networks, deletes your tweets, and erases your online presence. Since the Dutch “word of the year 2009″ is ontvrienden (unfriending) this kind of app just needed to be created. Now go ahead and start unfriending!

Generating an Ajax loading image
Remember how you used to Google Image Search to rip a decent loader image? Yes you! Don’t do that any more. Use Ajaxload to generate your own purty loader. I just used it today and so can you.
Kom maar op
Follows the inevitable post for our Dutch audience: “my” channel Z@PP has recently shot a video based on their pay off KOM MAAR OP. It’s with all the presenters and performed by Monique Smit. The lyrics are a bit thin but the fun doing it more than makes up for it. The clip will be broadcast on Z@PP from 27 December, but you can watch the making of here.
File uploads in Ruby on Rails
When you need to resort to using Flash to handle something, you know you’re in a mess. Yet that is the case when dealing with file uploads. New: Oorkaan
I have also recently launched www.oorkaan.nl. This is the restyled website of Oorkaan. They organize concerts and musical productions for children. They are a non-profit, which I think is great. If you live in .nl and have children in the school-going age, I really recommend you visit one of their productions.
Zappelin restyle live
Oh goodie! The new Zappelin website was launched just five minutes ago. I built the (HTML part of the) website in Ruby on Rails. It was a joy to create and in the coming weeks I have the honour to add lots of cool things to it as well.

The Web, all grown up
I am one of those old-skool web developers who write code using a text editor (vi, not emacs). Still I do appreciate evolutions in my field. And after completely abandoning writing javascript (instead resorting to jQuery or Prototype) I can now completely abandon writing CSS. Enter Blueprint, a CSS framework.

Fysiodeurloo restyle live
Tis the time of year for lotsa restyled websites! Yes, I have been keeping busy. My aunt’s physical therapy shop Fysiodeurloo is the first to kick off this year’s round of fresh new websites. It’s a pretty standard WordPress-as-a-CMS website, but does its job very well and is a huge step up from the previous website. If you have aching bones and live in Tholen, go there!

PHP massive security FAIL
A security vulnerability was discovered in WordPress 2.8.3 recently. If you look at the flaw in question, I can’t believe people are still using PHP to publish websites. If you still do, you should be beaten with a stick. Let’s gloat about why Ruby (on Rails) is better, point by point.
