As much a brilliant idea as it is funny: the web 2.0 suicide machine. One click of a button removes you from many social networks, deletes your tweets, and erases your online presence. Since the Dutch “word of the year 2009″ is ontvrienden (unfriending) this kind of app just needed to be created. Now go ahead and start unfriending!

Move from MySQL to PostgreSQL?
I am sure many of you reading this have received Michael’s plea this morning as well. The original developer of the MySQL database is worried that his brain child will be terminated by its new owner Oracle. I think his worries are justified. He pleads for you to sign a petition to keep MySQL free. I have signed, but all this makes me contemplate moving to PostgreSQL. I think it’s a better database engine anyway and this might be just the tipping point. I will probably start experimenting with it in new projects.
Installing ImageMagick on Snow Leopard
Getting ImageMagick onto your computer would be so incredibly difficult I would often just forgo the entire thing and pray that image manipulation would sort of work on the server. Well, no more. Claudio Poli has written a great bash script to install the whole thing with one command. Clone this repo and execute it. Works perfectly!

Macbook Pro doesn't work with Time Capsule
Time for a vague problem. Yesterday I splurged on a new MacBook Pro 15 inch. But I had huge problems getting it to connect to my wireless network at home. And I am not the only one. Turns out it is incompatible with Time Capsule’s default setting! Argh! Continue reading
Video 2.0
Great post on how to publish video on your website, 2009-style. I reckon the <video> tag is here to stay, but I don’t really like the implementation outlined in that post. I would much prefer using something like swfobject to render all that code.
See through your iPhone
A pretty awesome app has appeared for iPhones. It allows you to see through your iPhone when writing an email. Uses the camera on the other side of the phone. Brilliant! PS I am getting an iPhone in june when they’re updated.
Nanoc + Haml + Vlad = heaven
Sorry for the acronym soup, but part of my job is research and development of new website building techniques. I have found a neat and fast way of maintaining websites in the nanoc + haml + vlad combo.
