Test driven development: take a step back

When you do Ruby on Rails development for a living, Test Driven Development is a given. I would be very uncomfortable without tests, most likely I couldn’t do a job at all. So far, so good. But RoR, being the hottest web framework there is, draws a very “alpha geek” crowd. You know, people who always flock to the latest and greatest thing. You see, testing is out. Speccing is in. And I don’t like it.

Waiting for the smoking ban

In six weeks time, Holland will join the other developed countries of this world and the smoking ban in bars and restaurants will go in effect. And recently I have found myself more and more annoyed by people smoking. The funny thing is, I never used to be anti-smoking like this. Adobe Fireworks: license revoked. Adobe sucks.

Well there you go. Today, my license to Adobe Fireworks has stopped working. Mind you, this is a product I have purchased quite legally. I have never issued it to anyone. I have even diligently installed it to only one computer. Yet today Adobe has decided that my license has expired/is invalid/has been deactivated/whatever.

This is painful and it reinforces my belief in the sad state of Adobe software. Their products are overpriced and underpowered. I vowe not to use their crap again until they have significantly stepped up their game.

I am installing Pixelmator as I type this. Fuck you Adobe!
