This is more a note to myself than anything else, but here is a Rails demo app that features full localization. What does that mean? It means that, as of the next version (2.2), Rails applications understand about different languages and offer a means to switch between them. It’s a huge thing and I am looking very much forward to using these features.

Segfaults in rcov
For all the apparent ‘l33tness’ the rcov tool is in a pretty sad state. Unusable, even. I get bus errors all the time and I know from experience I am not the only one. Why was this a good tool to use?

The first thing you learn as a web developer is probably how to make a link. It’s so basic to the web that it is hard to see what’s wrong with it. Still, some people think the good old A tag needs a stern talking-to. Especially in the area of behaviour.
Ruby magic
Ahhh, nothing like a little Ruby sugar to start the weekend. I did little refactoring of a particular ugly bit of code and couldn’t help to share. This one is all about chopping up arrays.
Why are so many sites so bad?
For years I’ve been keeping an eye open for a new house in Amsterdam. So far, no luck. They are either too cheap or too expensive. (This is a common problem for the Dutch housing market.) But what continues to amaze me, is how incredibly shitty most websites in this sector are. They are bad, really, really really bad.

Opting out of advertisements
I’m a big fan of opting out of marketing crap. Now Yahoo and Google allow me to do just that. I think you should do the same, it’s only a simple mouseclick.
