A train tunnel will be dug between Spain and Morocco. Good news!
The new tunnel (scheduled for completion in 2025) fits in the trend towards globalization. While that has drawbacks too, I think this tunnel is a great idea. It’s only logical.
Yes, I know Morocco has cheap labor. But Spain has cheap labor for France, who in turn are cheap for us in the Netherlands (think about the food you can get there for almost nothing!) and we are cheap for people in the UK.
It’s all about the distribution of wealth I guess. And even though I vote SP I don’t see that as a negative thing. It’s inherent in the concept of money itself, which is not intrinsically malevolent. It’s all about what you do with it.
Building this tunnel is a) fantastic because it’s a huge engineering effort and b) great for people and economies to converge; to become closer instead of drifting apart. I am all for becoming closer. My hope, albeit naieve, is that you won’t see your neighbour as a terrrr’ist because you see him every day, you know him well, he takes care of the mail when you’re gone and vice versa.
So, bring on the tunnel I say and let’s not stop there. Let’s talk about getting them aboard the European Union; or instead, let’s talk about some new global economic order where borders no longer exist and us earthlings are all one.
Or have I been watching too much sci-fi? (don’t answer that)
